About the Event
Students will continue to deepen their coordination (advancing pieces safely and soundly), begin learning some basic tactics, introduced to openings objectives, and begin learning how to evaluate a position to guide their decision making. Chess notation will be introduced/reviewed. Students will learn to communicate moves and ideas using the language of chess.
Students in this class should be familiar with castling, special pawn moves, understand check, checkmate, stalemate, and draw. It is common that casual players might not know about "en passant", or all the rules for castling. It is also common that stalemate is confused with checkmate. It will be covered briefly in this class.
This class is 100% Outdoors (rain/shine). Masks recommended.
-The tent has netting that reduces wind, and keeps rain out. We have lighting under the tent for when the sun sets earlier. Space heaters will be used to give us a little warm when the temps get chilly. The tent will be up until snow is expected.
