About the Event
This class is for those who already know how each piece moves and captures. All other rules of the game will be covered in this class. For those entirely new to chess, please sign up for the Starter Chess 1 or 2 Classes.
Students will learn how to activate pieces in coordination (be useful in the game), take a closer look at basic pawn structures, castling, strategic aims, and practice mate patterns within the context of a game. Chess notation will be introduced. Students will learn to communicate moves and ideas using the language of chess.
Students in this class will learn all the special chess moves: castling, special pawn moves. Learn the differences between check, checkmate, stalemate, and draw. And how play strategically by learning the strengths and weakness of pieces alone, in coordinated combination, and board/position awareness. Special attention will be given to basic pawn structures. This class best suits players who already know how to move/play, but lacks a sense of strategy (outside of capture as much as you can, and checkmate!)
This class is 100% Outdoors (rain/shine). Masks recommended.
-The tent has netting that reduces wind, and keeps rain out. We have lighting under the tent for when the sun sets earlier. Space heaters will be used to give us a little warm when the temps get chilly. The tent is only up until snow is expected.
